Who is my Ishta Devata?

Updated: Sep 2, 2021

We came across many posts where people keep on asking whom should they worship?

Who is their Ishta devata, can it be known through Astrology if they till now were unable to decode that for whom they always inherently feel the likening.

Also, many persons have the most genuine claim that they have a love for everyone, and to choose only ONE among so many, they feel they are getting confused.

So here we are writing about this doubt.

Devatas one must always pray and foremost comes is your Kula devata. One should never leave one's Kula devatas.

Kuladēvata belongs to one's particular clan. Kula=Clan. Ishta dēvata is your personal dEvi or dEva whom you feel the most important connection.

The most special bonding is tuning in this beautiful relationship with your Ishta devata with love, devotion, and compassion.

Ishta-Devata is one's Chosen Deity.

Remember, there is only one God who is the Self (Atma) of all and is formless with infinite powers (Shaktis).

The Para Brahman can also assume any form (Rama, Krishna, Radha, Shiva, Durga etc.) through which the devotee sees of Him/Her.

For those who haven't yet known whom one should worship, the Guru is the best judge to choose which God one should meditate on, based on your Spiritual Garment you have seeded from past karmas of the cycle.

Whomever you worship, consider that He/She is your own Self and is the highest unlimited Supreme being who only takes and manifests in all the other forms of Gods.

So the inherent desire that brings in with it a massive surge to go beyond any desires, such amount of love if you have for that ONE GOD/Goddess then He/She is your Ishta Devata.

And for those who feel love for everyone equally, just try to still find out that ONE, without whom you never feel complete. Then meditate on the formless Omkara. :)

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa says "Fix your attention on that form which appeals to you most, but know for certain that all forms are the forms of one God alone."
Swami Vivekananda says "Take up that one which suits you best and persevere in it. This is your Ishta, your special ideal."

There are also very many videos floating across the whole of Youtube and other Social media websites that one could do own calculations for judging to find out whom one should pray.

And also many list the devatas name based on Janma Nakshatras.

Like for say, Atma Karaka is the planet that has the highest longitude in one’s natal chart. Atma Karaka in Navamsa is called the “Karakamsa”. The 12th from the Karakamsa determines the “Ishta Devata”. The 12th house from the karakamsa is called the “Jivanmuktamsa”. This is the house signifying the liberation of the soul and we have to examine this house in order to find one’s Ishta Devata. If there is a graha in the Jivanmuktamsa, it signifies the Devata. If there are more grahas than one, we choose the strongest. If there is no graha in the Jivanmuktamsa, we can see whether any Grahas are aspecting the 12th. If no Grahas aspect it, we can take the 12th Lord as Ishta Devata.

But for more accurate reading and knowing the purpose of your own life, it has to be done via Personal Reading by our Astrology team, unless one has got any Guru or some person who help you in your attempt towards knowing your life path. You should understand which form you need help from, that's it, if and only if you need astrological guidance for knowing which devata form to worship based on your tattvas and desires.

Remember, if never knew who is your Ishta devata and after reading this article you now are thinking to tune it to know further. Please STOP there itself. The point is whatever spiritual practices you have been involved in with, kindly do not leave any devatas just due to articles that let you think about that.

Never leave any worship you have had ever continued.
